Tour Overview:
7-Day Kilimanjaro Trekking Tour | Lemosho Route – Prices
Embark on the lesser-known Lemosho route, commencing from the western side of Mt Kilimanjaro. The initial 2 days of the journey traverse the dense rainforest belt, transforming into heath and moorland adorned with numerous ferns and ericas along the way. The narrow trail occasionally presents steep passages, offering a trek through diverse landscapes. On the third day, the route merges with the Machame route. In comparison to the Marangu and Rongai routes, the Lemosho route is renowned for its heightened level of challenge.
Kilimanjaro Airport – Arusha
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, our transfer driver will warmly welcome you and drive you to the Meru View Lodge. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. You may opt to unwind at the hotel or explore the town of Arusha (taxi required). In the evening, a comprehensive briefing awaits you, preparing you for the adventure ahead. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be arranged at Mount Meru Hotel or Meru View Lodge.
Arusha – Lemosho Gate (2,385 m) – Big Tree Camp (2,780 m)
In the morning, you’ll be picked up from the lodge and transported to the Lemosho Gate (2,385 m). Upon arrival, you will undergo registration with the national park authorities, marking the commencement of your trek through a dense rainforest. Following a moderately steep track, you’ll navigate through an incredible and untouched natural forest, ultimately reaching your destination for the day, the Big Tree Camp.
Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Big Tree Camp (2,780 m) – Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m)
Today’s extensive trek kicks off on a narrow trail winding through the rainforest. As the elevation increases, the forest gradually gives way to heath and moorland, where the dominant landscape is adorned with plants like erica and lobelia. Crossing the Shira Ridge, after 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Shira Camp 1. This is where you’ll break for lunch, take some time to relax, and relish the breathtaking views of Mt Meru and the Rift Valley.
For the final stretch of the climb, approximately 3 hours, you’ll ascend another 250 meters in altitude. The scenery will undergo yet another transformation as you pass by giant senecios that can reach heights of almost 9 meters. At Shira Camp 2, you’ll set up camp for the night, and if luck is on your side, you might enjoy a stunning view of the Kibo summit at sunset.
Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m) – Lava Tower (4,640 m) – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)
Barranco Camp (3,960 m) – Karanga Camp (4,035 m)
Today’s trekking route features numerous ascents and descents, and shortly after setting out, you’ll confront the steepest section of the entire route—the Barranco Wall. At times, you may need to use your hands for support as there are no designated climbing “paths.” Safety is of utmost importance, and your guides will provide assistance whenever necessary. Once you reach the top of the Barranco Wall, the journey continues along the mountain ridge. From this vantage point, you’ll be treated to fantastic views of the southern glacier of Kibo and the summit itself. You’ll arrive at Karanga Camp around lunchtime.
Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Karanga Camp (4,035 m) – Barafu Camp (4,640 m)
After breakfast you will walk along a trail that passes through an alpine desert area until you reach the destination of today – the Barafu Camp. In the afternoon you can relax and stretch your legs in preparation of the upcoming summit night. You will have dinner early in order to catch a few hours’ sleep, before you will be woken up at around midnight.
