Embark on a thrilling 2-day safari from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park, designed for both time-conscious international travelers seeking a taste of Tanzanian safari magic and residents longing to escape the urban hustle to immerse themselves in nature’s tranquility.
Located approximately 300 kilometers from Dar es Salaam and spanning 3230 square kilometers, Mikumi National Park seamlessly extends the renowned Selous Ecosystem. Its expansive savannah plains, reminiscent of the Serengeti, are adorned with Miombo Woodlands and offer breathtaking vistas of the Uluguru Mountains. This region forms part of the ancient ‘Eastern Arc Mountains,’ stretching from Eastern Tanzania to South Eastern Kenya, encompassing iconic ranges like the Pare and Usambara Mountains.
What to Expect on Your 2-Day Mikumi Safari from Dar es Salaam
As you journey along the Dar es Salaam-Mbeya Highway, which traverses Mikumi National Park, an exciting wildlife spectacle unfolds even before entering the park gates. Baboons, monkeys, zebras, gazelles, impalas, and giraffes frequently grace the roadside, offering a preview of the abundant wildlife within. Keep an eye out for unexpected encounters, such as lions leisurely crossing the highway, asserting their right of passage.
Mikumi’s diverse ecosystem hosts an array of wildlife, including buffaloes, greater kudus, hartebeests, elephants, elands, and sable antelopes. Lucky visitors might catch glimpses of elusive cheetahs and occasional leopards amidst the thriving biodiversity.
With over 400 recorded bird species, Mikumi National Park is a haven for bird enthusiasts. Guided walking safaris, accompanied by armed TANAPA Rangers, provide a unique opportunity to explore the avian wonders of the park. Marvel at majestic species like the African hawk eagle, southern ground hornbill, and vibrant weaver birds as you traverse Mikumi’s captivating landscapes.
Optimal Timing for Your Mikumi Adventure
For unparalleled wildlife encounters, plan your visit during the dry season from June to October, when animals congregate around vital water sources like the Mkata River. However, Mikumi’s allure transcends seasons, making it a year-round destination, including the typically quieter months of April and May.
Experience the splendor of Mikumi National Park on our exclusive 2-day safari, meticulously crafted to ensure an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Tanzanian wilderness.
