Walking with Hadzabe Tribe

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel, leading you through the vibrant towns of Moshi and Arusha. The journey takes you via Lake Manyara until you reach the enchanting Lake Eyasi, providing an opportunity to encounter the unique Hadzabe tribe.

The Hadzabe people, numbering approximately 1000-1500 individuals, form a culturally, linguistically, and genetically distinct community residing around Lake Eyasi in northern Tanzania. Mobility is a fundamental aspect of Hadzabe culture, serving both as a means to find sustenance and to peacefully regulate social interactions.

In their woodland habitat dominated by Acacia, Commiphora, and Baobab trees, the Hadza live amidst hilly and rocky terrain, with natural springs and seasonal rivers interspersing their range. The landscape transitions from rocky hills to sandy alluvial plains on the fringes of Lake Eyasi and the Yaeda Valley. While the dry season (June-Oct) can be hot, dry, and windy, the area turns lush and green during the rainy periods.

Hadza communities typically consist of 20-40 residents, and daily foraging decisions are made collectively through close observation of the land, discussions among camp members, and the application of expert knowledge. While they recognize general regions within their country, there are no land-holding territorial divisions.

After immersing yourself in the unique lifestyle of the Hadzabe, the day concludes with an overnight stay at Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge, where full board is included. This provides a comfortable and enriching retreat after a day of cultural exploration.
