Start your adventure with an early morning flight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam (approximately 20 minutes). Upon arrival, meet your professional safari driver-guide and embark on a scenic drive to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). The journey takes you through vibrant villages and lush local farms along a well-maintained tarmac road until Kibiti town. From Kibiti, the route turns toward the reserve, leading to Selous Mapumziko Lodge, nestled at the edge of the Rufiji River.

Upon arrival at the lodge, check-in and enjoy a hot lunch or packed lunch. Afterward, head out for an exciting afternoon game drive in Nyerere National Park. Be on the lookout for herds of elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and warthogs. The park is also home to predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas. Day 2

Start the day with an early breakfast or pack breakfast and lunch boxes as you depart at 6:30 am for an exciting morning game drive. Early mornings are an excellent time to spot the cat family, such as lions, leopards, or cheetahs, as they roam the roads avoiding the morning mist. You might also encounter nocturnal predators returning from a night of hunting or see a pride of lions feasting on their prey along the roadside.

After an eventful morning, take a break for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, resume your game drive, exploring the park’s diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife as you make your way back toward the lodge.

Around 4:00 pm, embark on a captivating boat safari along the Rufiji River. This breathtaking trip offers a chance to see hippos and crocodiles up close in their natural habitat. You’ll also enjoy sightings of various land and aquatic bird species, making this a must-experience activity for bird enthusiasts.

As the sun sets, return to the riverbank and head back to Selous Mapumziko Lodge for dinner, relaxation by the campfire, and an overnight stay.

Day 3

Guided Nature Walk and Departure

Begin the day with an early start at 6:30 am for a guided nature walk. Accompanied by a knowledgeable bushman, explore the village and the park boundary areas. Your guide will share fascinating insights about the local culture, the community’s way of life near the park, and their experiences coexisting with wild animals.

After the walk, return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast before preparing for your journey back to Dar es Salaam. Depending on your travel plans, you’ll either be dropped off at your hotel in Dar es Salaam for dinner and an overnight stay (own arrangement) or at the airport if you’re flying back to Zanzibar or your home destination.
