Arusha – Olmoti Crater – Nainokanoka
Embark on a morning adventure as you are chauffeured from your hotel along a well-maintained tar road towards the picturesque village of Mto wa Mbu, with the majestic Great Rift Valley escarpment as your backdrop. From an elevated vantage point above the town, soak in panoramic views of the Masai plains extending to the horizon, bordered by the alkaline Lake Manyara below.
A brief drive further will bring you to the entrance of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Your journey unfolds along the captivating crater road, leading to the Masai village of Nainokanoka. While our team sets up the camp, spend your afternoon hiking to the rim of the Olmoti Crater, with an optional detour to a charming waterfall. Dinner will be served at the camp, and be prepared for cooler temperatures at the 2,650-meter altitude, especially depending on the season.
Lunch and dinner are included in this immersive experience.
Nainokanoka – Bulati
Empakai Crater – Acacia Camp
Embark on today’s adventure as you hike towards the Masai village of Naiyobi. Along a well-trodden path, catch glimpses of the village and the imposing silhouette of Oldonyo Lengai, the active volcano, in the distance. Following a satisfying lunch in Naiyobi, the trek takes you beyond the confines of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, leading into a drier and warmer landscape. Your camp for the night will be nestled among the serene surroundings of an acacia forest.
This leg of the journey is complemented by breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring you have the sustenance needed for a memorable experience in this captivating terrain.
Acacia Camp – Engare Sero – Arusha
The final leg of your journey is relatively short, primarily descending downhill. The trek offers spectacular vistas of Oldonyo Lengai, Lake Natron, and the Rift Valley. The rugged landscape takes on an almost surreal appearance, draped in the grey ash remnants of the last eruption in 2007. Descending into the dry and warm Rift Valley, you’ll have the opportunity to closely observe the ash-covered terrain. Around lunchtime, you’ll arrive at the awaiting vehicle, and your driver will transport you back to Arusha.
Conclude your adventure with a satisfying breakfast, reminiscing about the extraordinary views and experiences from your trek through the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands.
