Day 1

Arusha – Tarangire National Park

Following a brief morning briefing, embark on a journey to Tarangire National Park. This park, characterized by its vast tree savannah adorned with majestic baobab trees and seasonal marshes, boasts the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. Beyond elephants, anticipate sightings of giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, gnus, and various antelopes and gazelles. Upon entering the park, your guide will elevate the wildlife viewing experience by opening the roof of the vehicle. A delightful lunch break will be enjoyed at a scenic picnic spot, providing a moment to recharge before continuing your exploration of this remarkable park in the afternoon.

As the day unfolds, you’ll have the opportunity to witness more of Tarangire’s stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife. In the late afternoon, your journey leads you to the Lake Burunge Tented Camp, strategically located just outside the park, where you’ll spend the night. Anticipate a captivating evening surrounded by the tranquility of the wilderness. The day’s culinary experiences include a hearty lunch and a delightful dinner.

Day 2

Tarangire Area – Serengeti National Park

Following breakfast, your journey unfolds as you head towards the Rift Valley, traversing through Mto Wa Mbu and Karatu in the cooler regions of the crater highlands. As you enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a brief stop at a viewing point allows you to marvel at the crater’s magnificence. Continuing around the crater, you’ll descend the opposite side, experiencing the characteristic bumps of the road, affectionately referred to as your “African massage.” Along the way, pass through Maasai villages, adding cultural richness to your adventure, before making your way to the iconic Serengeti National Park.

At the Naabi Hill entrance gate, take a walk to a viewpoint offering spectacular panoramic views across the vast plains of the Serengeti savannah. Continuing your journey towards the Seronera Area in the central part of the Serengeti, prepare to witness the park’s abundant wildlife, including the renowned Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. In the late afternoon, you’ll reach the Kati Kati Tented Camp, nestled in a secluded area in the heart of the bush, offering a breathtaking view of the night sky. The day’s culinary offerings include a satisfying breakfast enjoyed en-route, a delightful lunch, and a sumptuous dinner surrounded by the serenity of the wilderness.

Day 3

Serengeti National Park

After a hearty breakfast, dedicate the entire day to a captivating game drive in the expansive Serengeti National Park. A picnic lunch at a scenic spot en-route ensures you have the energy to absorb the wonders of the park. Depending on the season, you may be fortunate enough to witness the awe-inspiring great migration, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and Thompson gazelles traverse the Serengeti plains. During the small rainy season in October and November, these herds typically migrate from the Kenyan Masai Mara through the northwest of the Serengeti to the southern plains. Conversely, after the great rainy season in April, May, and June, the herds gradually travel back through the western and north-western part of the Serengeti. Keep in mind that fluctuations in rainfall can impact this schedule, leading to variations in migration times and routes.

Your experienced guide will make every effort to locate the herds, ensuring you have the best vantage point in the national park. The migration also attracts predators, offering the possibility of witnessing a predator-prey interaction, adding another layer of excitement to your safari. As the day concludes, you’ll spend another night at the Kati Kati Tented Camp, surrounded by the tranquility of the Serengeti. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner, immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Note:

If your travel dates fall between January and mid-March, your stay will be at the Ndutu Kati Kati Tented Camp, located closer to the border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the Ndutu Area. This strategic location increases the chances of encountering the famous migration, as the herds can be on either the Serengeti or Ngorongoro side during this period.

Day 4

Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu

Embark on an early morning journey from the Serengeti back to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area after a daybreak breakfast, bidding farewell to the captivating Seronera Valley. The cooler hours of the day offer a heightened chance to witness the liveliness of predators in action. A designated picnic spot provides the perfect setting for lunch en-route. Upon reaching the edge of the crater, the impressive 19 km diameter caldera unfolds before you in all its stunning glory. Prepare for an adventurous descent into the crater, following a trail that promises an immersive experience.

This World Heritage Site serves as a seasonal home to over 25,000 animals, encompassing a diverse range of bird species, hyenas, and the renowned “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. As you exit the crater on a different ascent road, your journey continues to Karatu in the Ngorongoro highlands. Here, you will spend the night at one of the three impeccably situated Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure Lodges. The day concludes with a delightful dinner, wrapping up your exploration of these natural wonders. Enjoy a day filled with breakfast, lunch, and dinner amidst the breathtaking landscapes.

Day 5

Karatu – Arusha

Indulge in a leisurely breakfast before embarking on your journey back to Arusha, with an estimated arrival around noon. For those considering combining this safari with a trip to Zanzibar, convenient flights are available from the local Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport. Enjoy lunch en-route, savoring the final moments of your safari adventure.
